George Bush, President of the USA, declared that 30.000 soldiers would be withdrawn until the summer 2008 in line with the recommendations of General David Petraeus, the commander in Iraq on behalf of the American Army. However the statement of Bush did not satisfy the Democrats.
WASHINGTON- Bush has recently announced he will follow the recommendations coming from General David Petraeus, the commander in Iraq of the US forces, who proposes that approximately 30.000 soldiers be withdrawn gradually until July 2008. According to the statement made by Bush, 5.700 soldiers will return to home within 2007. If the situation becomes so, nearly 130.000 soldiers will still be staying in Iraq.
Thus, while the US president pointed out that he would both maintain his power in Iraq, he tried to alleviate public’s pressure by announcing a symbolic amount of soldier would be retracted.
Bush, “My decisions about soldiers’ returning will be based on the principle of success. More success will ensure more soldires will be at home.” said.
Bush also stated Iraq would need the US military help even after the process was completed in the future and indicated long-term military force would be in Iraq.
The US president, in his speech, did not forget to warn Iran and Syria. He said those two countries had better stop trying to weaken the US government.
Nevertheless the Democrats have not been satisfied by the speech. Senator Jack Reed speaking on behalf of Democrats said the president was continuing to carry out his unfair policies and the Democrat Party would insist on accelerating the process about faster withdrawal of the soldiers.
