Hakia, the first semantic search engine available on the web and a fresh begining in the evolution of searching technologies, will be valid for Turkish language in 2008.
ISTANBUL- Formed in 2004 by a Turk, a nuclear physicist living in New York and named Dr. Rıza Can Berkan, the alternative search engine Hakia has been derived from the word ‘hakija’ meaning ‘researcher’ in Finnish language. Hakia, becoming on-line in 2005, has now 2 millions users around the world.
The most striking feature of Hakia is that it uses semantic connection for the first time in the world. Hakia is distinguished from such search engines as Google, Yahoo, MSN Live by its algorithm. Hakia’s algorithm is not based on PageRank. Instead of making search based on words as other search engines do, Hakia uses semantic connection in order to reach the target. It is able to understand the meaning of question by processing it word-by-word and so presents the web sites containing similar questions. As for the other search engines, the average search time can reach to 11 minutes since the most popular sites are given priority and the most visited sites are provided as search results.
Stating that Hakia gives results much faster, in much less time, and by reaching the desired document, Dr. Rıza Can Berkan, “Semantic technologies will be included in everything in the future. Every technology relating language will be related to semantics” said.
Turkish search engine is expected to be provided in 2008
Hakia, aiming at providing a faster, more efficient and extensive search service for its users, will be provided in other languages in the near future and will be valid firstly in the USA, Turkey, Poland, England and Spain.
Results can be seen as coloured via ‘scoopbar’
The new application called ‘scoopbar’ of Hakia, using different search methods in order to comprehend internet and make it comprehended, marks the answer of the seached question on the document and prevents loss of time. Also, through a method, it can form an archive by marking the necessary words and sentences. Then, because it saves different results on this archive, it is not needed to search the same thing again and again.
