İn Ankara a mini-bus loaded with a 500 kg explosives was captured after 602 kg TNT explosives loaded in a vehicle discovered on multi-storey car park in Sıhhıye in September 11, 2007.
PETN, a very strong explosive material, was found in a mini-bus discovered on the entrance of Ankara last night. It was emphasized by the customs authorities that this explosive material may have been loaded in Sweden.
TURKEY has faced with the second ‘massive explosive material event’ after Tuesday, September 11, 2007. The second mini-bus causing Ankara to experince exciting and frightening hours was determined to have been loaded in Sweden.
According to the knowledge obtained, the authorities of Customs Organization of Bulgaria informed our Customs Undersecretariat that TNT explosives would be brought to Turkey in a white mini-bus whose plate was SG-H 616 and that the vehicle was about to leave the country. In Turkey, authorized institutions started to chase the said vehicle which passed through the customs. On customs, the driver of the mini-bus, a foreign national, and 2 Turks said that their destination was İzmir.
When the vehicle, entering from Kapikule border gate, was discovered to be on the way to Ankara not İzmir, extensive security measures were taken in Ankara general. Those three persons in mini-bus, stopped near Behiçbey, were immediately controlled by the police. Mini-bus was taken to an area belonging to General-Directorate of Customs. Bülent Ertem, Undersecretary of Customs, Hayrettin Cevher, General-manager of Customs Protection, and some of the senior authorities of police department went to the area.
General-director of Customs Ahmet Arslan holding a press conference late at night, “This material was carried through illegal ways. Customs measures have not been taken. There are some other extra information but I will not tell you for the good of the investigation being carried out at present. A mini-bus loaded with a powerful explosive material has entered our country from a European country and arrived in our capital city Ankara. What is important is that. Our investigations are going on. Our ministry will enlighten you today (September 14). 2 persons are under detainment now.” said.
