Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has given a reply to the leader of Southern Cyprus Tasos Papadopulos, saying ‘our sole enemy is Turkish Armed Forces’.
The Ministry has notified that Turkish Armed Forces is the guarantee of peace and welfare in Cyprus and will continue to remain so.
In the written notification made by Foreign Ministry in Turkey, “There is no ground for those harsh and meaningless statements relating Turkey and Turkish Army of the leader of Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus, who was a member of the former EOKA terrorist organization and known to be one of the writers of Akritas Plan which forsees ethnical cleansing against Turkish Cypriots” has been stated.
In this notification, it has been said “Today it is well known that Papadopulos who occupied the common administrtaion demolished by the Greek side in 1964 in Cyprus and that his intensive efforts to impede peace in Cyprus will be in vain. It is well seen that Papadopulos, who gave a negative reaction to the proposal set forth by KKTC President Mr. Mehmet Ali Talat at the meeting held in September 5, is trying to distort the agenda. Mr. Talat had proposed that a detailed agreement be made till the end of 2008 but Papadopulos did not accept”
Spokesman of the Foreign Ministry Levent Bilman said that declaring Turkish Armed Forces as enemy on the Island would not serve for the peace.
Bilman, “I think Papadopulos has forgotten that Turkey is the guarantor country together with Greece and England, that Turkey is at the same time motherland and that the presence of Turkish Armed Forces on the Island stems from international agreements and so it is legal” said.
